Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration (SNSA) is an agency within the framework of Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and is competent for performing administrative and technical affairs related to:

• nuclear and radiation safety of  nuclear facilities;
• circulation, transport and management with nuclear and radioactive materials;
• control and material balance of nuclear material;
• physical protection of nuclear materials and nuclear facilities;
• responsibilities for nuclear detriment;
• staff qualifications at nuclear facilities and their education with appropriate quality assurance;
• assurance of radiological monitoring;
• early notification at nuclear and radiological accidents;
• international cooperation in the work areas of the administration.

SNSA performs specialised technical and development administrative tasks and activities of inspection control in the areas of radiation and nuclear safety, activities involving ionising radiation and use of radiation sources, with exception to use in medicine and veterinary medicine, environment protection against ionising radiation, physical protection of nuclear materials and facilities, nonproliferation of nuclear weapons and safeguards, monitoring radioactivity in the environment and responsibilities for nuclear damage.
