Radiation monitoring

The main purpose behind of radiation monitoring is to track the levels of radioactive contamination and natural radioactivity in the environment, as well as to follow trends in radionuclide concentration values and prompt warning in case of elevated levels of radiation on the territory of Slovenia.

Early warning network

The early warning network (Slovenian acronym is MZO) is an automatic system designed for prompt measurements of elevated radiation levels in the environment. That is one of the principal tasks in case of a nuclear or radiological accident in Slovenia or abroad. The decision makers use the collected data as a basis for successful implementation of measures needed to protect the population.

Radioactivity in the environment

ROKO (the name derives from Slovenian Radioactivity in the Environment) is a database which contains data on measurements of radioactivity in the Republic of Slovenia. Programs for monitoring of levels of radioactivity in the environment as a consequence of global contamination due to nuclear bomb tests and the Chernobyl accident have been continuously carried out. In addition to the data on levels of radioactive contamination of the environment, the SNSA has also gathered data from the Krško NPP, the Žirovski Vrh Mine, the Low and Intermediate Level Waste Depository and the Reactor Centre at Brinje.
